According to a media report, American electric car manufacturer Tesla wants to lay off 300 employees at its German site in Grünheide. Temporary workers will initially be affected by the job cuts starting Monday, digital business magazine Business Insider reported Wednesday, citing people familiar with the matter. Their access to the factory premises should be prohibited upon expiration of their employment contracts.
More than 14,000 jobs will be eliminated
Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on April 15 that he would cut more than one in ten jobs worldwide due to weak demand for his cars.
Musk's salary package
It became known on Wednesday that the American electric car maker Tesla wants its shareholders to approve CEO Elon Musk's $56 billion (€52.6 billion) pay package, which was invalidated by a court in the state of Delaware. “When legally appropriate, we will simply subject the original 2018 package to a new settlement,” Tesla said in a regulatory filing on Wednesday.
At the end of January, a judge in Delaware called Musk's compensation package based on stock options “incredibly high” and declared it invalid. It is possible to appeal against the ruling. “We disagree with the Delaware court’s decision,” board Chairman Robin Denholm wrote.
Moving the company headquarters
Tesla shareholders must also approve the move of the company's headquarters from Delaware to Texas. Musk announced the move immediately after the devastating ruling was issued. Musk's companies SpaceX and Neuralink have already moved their headquarters to Texas and Nevada.
