On Pentecost Sunday, Winterthur experienced a first in its more than a hundred-year history of electricity supply: for the first time, the city produced more electricity than it consumed using solar cells and burning waste.
The city fed electricity to Axpo's downstream grid for the first time on Sunday. This has never happened before, the city announced Wednesday. The recovery was also due to the fact that little energy was used on a sunny Sunday. However, this first offer makes the city very optimistic.
We can conclude from this that this situation will be repeated thanks to the intensive expansion of solar cells. Winterthur is one of the first major cities to produce more electricity than it consumes within the city during the day.
