Peter Zeidler (61 years old) is the new coach of VfL Bochum. He succeeds interim coach Heiko Butcher, who has managed to keep the club in the Bundesliga through leaps and bounds.
Peter Zeidler has been coach of Swiss club St. Gallen for the past six seasons. It finished fifth this season and qualified for the preliminary rounds of the Conference League.
The German was previously a coach at RB Salzburg, Tours and Sion, among others. So he will be working in his home country for the first time.
Bochum barely managed to stay in the Bundesliga last week. He finished in 16th place, which meant he had to play jump matches against second division side Fortuna Düsseldorf.
They lost the first leg 0-3, but won the second leg by the same score. The score was 5-6 in the penalty shootout series, meaning Bochum will also play in the Bundesliga next year.
Zeidler succeeds Heiko Butcher, who coached the last 6 league matches and transitional matches as interim coach. He, in turn, succeeds Thomas Leach, who led Bochum over the past two seasons.
