slim – Femke de Vries had a great debut in Visma| Rent a bike.
In the final, the Dutch had to allow Canyon duo Neve Bradbury and Kasia Niyadoma to break away from her leading group, but they were able to beat Amanda Spratt in the race for third place. The new WorldTour pro is 10th in the world rankings.
Demi Wohlring ranked sixth in this stage and maintained the lead in the general classification.
“I'm really very happy with my performance,” De Vries says with a smile. “I was in a good position so I got on the plane. At first I thought: what have I gotten myself into, but I soon noticed that I was good. Unfortunately, I couldn't keep up the pace on the last climb of the day, but then I gave it my all until the end. It was nice that I also won the sprint, I didn't expect that.
De Vries, who is running only her second race with the team, rose to tenth place in the general classification thanks to her third place. “I really didn't expect that I would be able to compete at this level now. I grabbed the opportunity I had to lead for this team with both hands, and it's so nice to have this pay off as well. The fact that I can compete with the best in the business makes me very happy.”
