Heavy forest fires are raging on the Greek tourist island of Kos, especially around the town of Kardamena. Residents and tourists have been evacuated and are being housed in a stadium and schools.

Five firefighters were injured. Police have arrested a 63-year-old man on suspicion of arson. The seaside resort of Metohi has been evacuated.
