Philipp Lahm, the director of the European Championship, took a look at the tournament in Germany. The former footballer singled out the Dutch fans as one of the highlights.
In conversation with Build Lahm recalls that he enjoyed the fans during the European Championships. “On the one hand, there were the noisy Scots, who I found very friendly. They were just happy to be part of the European Championship. But also the Romanian fans or the fans from Georgia: it was great to see how many spectators from all countries were in the stadiums.” He also mentions the marches towards the stadiums. “I have never seen such crowd marches. However, the 2014 World Cup winner has not only seen positive things at the European Championship. For example, he cites incidents with Kylian Mbappé and Jude Bellingham. “There are clear rules in football. If anyone breaks these rules, they will be punished.” After being treated for his injury, Mbappé immediately sat down on the pitch, receiving a yellow card for it. “Sometimes, I would like players to be more aware of their role as role models for children. Some people have some catching up to do.” He also disapproves of the incidents with Bellingham and Merih Demiral. “This does not belong on the field.”
After a month-long tournament, the final is set to take place on Sunday evening. In Berlin, Spain and England will compete for the ultimate victory. According to Lahm, only one team can win. “Spain. They played football consistently from the first match to the semi-finals. They have a clear idea and great players,” he concludes. The final between Spain and England kicks off on Sunday evening at 9 p.m.
