Elon Musk has announced that he is moving the headquarters of SpaceX and X to Texas due to a law protecting transgender people in California. In the past, the American billionaire has spoken of a “woke” agenda that poses a danger to society.
American billionaire Elon Musk announced that his company SpaceX will move to Texas due to California's transgender protection law. Musk added on the X online service on Tuesday: “This is the straw that broke the camel's back. Because of this law and many laws before it that attack families and businesses,” SpaceX will move its headquarters from Hawthorne to Starbase.
A new law in California prohibits schools from requiring teachers to inform parents of potential changes in a student’s sexual orientation or gender identity. Democratic Gov. Gavin Newsom signed the law Monday.
Musk also announced that he will move the headquarters of his internet service X from San Francisco to Austin, Texas. Musk has already moved the headquarters of carmaker Tesla from Palo Alto in Silicon Valley to Austin.
The American billionaire has in the past expressed his deep distaste for the use of so-called preferred pronouns, describing the practice as part of an alleged “woke” agenda that poses a danger to society.
Musk recently officially announced his support for former President Donald Trump's renewed candidacy for president. In this context, the businessman also announced huge financial donations to the Republican candidate's election campaign.
Musk is the world's richest man, with total assets of around $250 billion (around €229 billion). In recent months, he has become increasingly friendly with Trump. The two met at an event in Florida in March.
