Last week too, significantly fewer asylum seekers arrived in the Netherlands than last year. This is the eighth week in a row that the influx has been lower than in the same week last year. In the last months of last year and the first months of this year, there were significantly more applications.
Last week, around 800 asylum applications were registered. Last year, there were 1,100 applications in the same week, and in 2022 there were 1,200 asylum applications.
WNL Haagse Lobby has produced this podcast about the reception of refugees in Ter Apel. The transcript continues below the podcast.
Since the beginning of this year, about 26,000 applications have been registered. This is still somewhat more than last year and the year before, but the difference is narrowing every week. In 2022 and 2023, the counter is about 24,000 applications around this time of year.
It is not known exactly how many asylum applications have been submitted, and the weekly figures from the Ministry of Asylum and Migration are rounded to the nearest hundred. This does not only concern new applications, but also, for example, follow-up travellers. They may come to the Netherlands to join a family member who has been granted asylum. People who apply for asylum again are also included in the figures.
