London – After the dramatic election defeat of British Prime Minister Sunak and his Conservative Party, several names are already being mentioned as possible successors. The most common is that of Ronald Plasterk.
Ronald Plasterk, 67, has come close to becoming prime minister in several countries, including the Netherlands. If Plasterk succeeds Sunak, he will become the UK’s first Dutch prime minister.
In order for Plasterk to be sworn in as UK prime minister, he would still have to exchange his Dutch citizenship for British citizenship. “I understand that very well, but I don’t see it as a problem. I was previously prepared to give up my years of PvdA membership and all my principles to become prime minister somewhere.
According to him, the fact that Plasterk did not participate in the elections at all and has no connection with the winning British political party is also okay.
According to Plasterk, he is almost certain to become the new British prime minister. “It’s not quite final yet, but it must be very strange if I go through the premiership again,” the would-be prime minister said.
