The Lebanese Hezbollah movement targeted northern Israel with dozens of rockets. The Israeli military speaks of at least 55 shells. As far as we know, there were no casualties. However, fires are said to have broken out in several places.
The rocket fire comes after an Israeli airstrike on southern Lebanon. Israel says it hit a Hezbollah arms depot there. Lebanese authorities say 10 people were killed, including two children. Several others were wounded. All of the dead are believed to have come from Syria.
The heavily armed Hezbollah and Israeli forces attack each other almost daily. Hezbollah has declared its solidarity with the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip and wants to pressure Israel to end the conflict. Israeli media reported that Saturday's rocket fire targeted a kibbutz about 10 kilometers (six miles) from the border with Lebanon.
Tensions have been rising on the Lebanese border in recent weeks when 12 young men were killed by rocket fire in the occupied Golan Heights. Israel blamed Hezbollah and responded by killing a senior commander in Beirut.
