The deportation of 11-year-old Mikael and his mother to Armenia has been cancelled for the time being. On Tuesday, they submitted a new application to the Immigration and Naturalization Service (IND) to be able to stay in the Netherlands. This is written Hit Parole Based on sources from The Hague.
According to a well-informed source in the newspaper, an application has been submitted to reside with the father. The IND wants to process the application quickly, but is still waiting for all the necessary documents.
Mikael's father will receive a temporary residence permit and will try to keep Mikael in the Netherlands on the basis of the right to family life. The father does not live with his son in Amsterdam, but one of the people involved in The Hague reported that he lives elsewhere in the Netherlands.
These are nerve-wracking and uncertain days for Mikael and his mother. Tuesday will officially be the last day they can stay in the Netherlands. But due to the new measure, this has been extended for the time being.
Asylum application rejected
Mikael was born while his mother was in the process of obtaining a residence permit. She came to the Netherlands from Armenia in 2010. Because she disappeared from the authorities for a few months, her asylum application was eventually rejected. She decided to stay in the Netherlands and continue her litigation.
But last month, the Council of State also ruled that Mikael and his mother could not stay in the Netherlands. This caused a stir because Mikael had never visited Armenia.
