In one of the villages in the Turkish state of Bursa, a fisherman visited the same stork for the thirteenth year in a row this week. The bird settles in the village every year during the breeding season.
The people of Karacabey village call the stork “yarin” (friend). Every breeding season, the stork visits the hunter Adam Yilmaz. Yaren accompanies him on his boat and can be seen near his house.
The duo has become a phenomenon in Türkiye in recent years. The stork has its own nesting site in Karajabe. In 2019, a documentary film was produced about Yilmaz and his stork. The film won awards at the Prague Film Festival a year later.
Later, the municipality installed a webcam and launched a website. In 2022, Yilmaz and Yarin were immortalized with a statue.
