A severe winter storm in the US state of Iowa disrupted preparations for the Republican primary elections on Saturday. Republican candidates, including Ron DeSantis and Nikki Haley, were forced to cancel several campaign rallies. Former President Donald Trump also canceled appointments. Local media reported this.
The US primary elections begin on Monday, and residents of the Midwestern state of Iowa will be the first to choose who they want as their presidential candidate. It's a prelude to the presidential election on November 5 this year. Primary elections are not conducted at the ballot box, but during hundreds of neighborhood meetings in churches and schools, among other places, which conclude with a roll call vote among GOP members.
In the past two presidential elections, the Republican candidate won the state of Iowa, which was then held by Donald Trump. In the previous two elections, in 2008 and 2012, Iowa elected Democrat Barack Obama.
