AKW-Zoff++ continues secret traffic lights meeting without result |
This is what a nuclear settlement could look like
Traffic light convention countdown or traffic light collapse?
In the row over longer nuclear power plant operating times, the crucial hours have dawned: Chancellor Olaf Schultz (64, SPD) wants to force a deal by Tuesday at the latest!
Giant task: Scholz has to extract a compromise from brawlers Robert Habeck (53, Greens) and Christian Lindner (43, FDP). Economy Minister Habek only wants to allow two of the three remaining nuclear power plants to operate longer – until mid-April 2023 at the latest. Habeck secured support for this at the Green Party conference – and returned to Berlin prematurely.
On the other hand, Finance Minister Lindner is demanding that all three reactors continue to operate until 2024. The FDP leader wants to ensure a strong power supply and provide additional gas.
The situation is confused
Mode: Go on like never before! “I don’t know how we’re supposed to get out of this,” said a major coalition partner for BILD.
One thing is clear: Habeck and Lindner both need to succeed. Otherwise, the traffic lights alliance is in danger of collapse in the medium term.
In Berlin, one round of crises is now chasing the next. At noon, he invited Schulze to a secret summit in the Chancellery. He consulted with Habeck and Lindner for two and a half hours. He made an announcement: We need an agreement!
But in vain: shortly after three o’clock in the evening, Schulze, Habeck, and Linder silently left the Chancellery. She said there was no result yet.
The SPD, the Greens, and the FDP are speculating extensively about how the collapse of a large nuclear power plant could end. In the conversation, among other things: All three reactors operate until the last fuel rod serves its purpose. That could be in the fall of 2023.
Also discussed: one of the nuclear power plants will continue to operate after the end of the year, the other will go into emergency reserve and will only produce electricity again from the fall of 2023.
More rounds of crisis were announced on Monday. The countdown to the nuclear power plant decision has begun…
