In the better part of 2020, US President Donald Trump has repeatedly denied the toll that the COVID-19 pandemic has left his country.
In the final days before the election, his message was no different – attacking doctors, breaking the flag, declaring that the United States was “nearing its turn” over a virus that had killed nearly a quarter of a million Americans and infected nearly ten million.
As a result, the country’s prominent infectious disease expert has warned that America must prepare for “too much harm”, the rising death toll and the winter of 100,000 or more cases of coronavirus every day.
“We’re at a lot of harm,” said Dr. Anthony Fauci. Washington Post In a scathing interview published on Saturday night.
“It’s not good. All the stars are aligned in the wrong place as you enter the fall and winter seasons, people are gathering in the house inside. You couldn’t be any worse.”

Dr Fauci, previously referred to by the president as a “fool” “has been here for 500 years,” said the United States needed to make a “sudden change” in its public health practices and behaviors – citing the actions of Mr. Trump, defiant Joe Biden as an example.
Dr Fauci said that while Trump has rallied in states and cities that have seen record-high hospitalizations and infections, Biden is “taking it seriously from a public health perspective” by constantly wearing the mask in public and holding distant social events.
Meanwhile, the president’s perspective focuses on “the economy and reopening the country.”
Despite the rise in cases again, Dr. Fauci told the post that the White House Coronavirus Task Force is meeting less frequently and has little impact due to Trump’s focus on reopening America, saying that “the staff’s public health aspect has diminished significantly.” He added that he has not spoken to Mr. Trump since he was diagnosed with COVID-19 in October.
Scott Atlas, who has become Trump’s favorite pandemic advisor, and who has called for the virus to be allowed to spread among healthy young Americans, Dr. Fauci said he has “real problems with it.”
He said of Dr. Atlas: “He is a smart man who talks about things that I think he has no real vision, knowledge or experience about.”
“He’s constantly talking about the things that when you dissect and analyze, they make no sense.”

In a statement to Washington PostWhite House spokesman Judd Deere criticized Dr. Fauci for his comments, calling them “unacceptable” and accusing the 79-year-old man of “practicing politics.”
Mr Deere said Dr Fauci “knows that the risks (from COVID-19) today are significantly lower than they were only a few months ago.”
“It is unacceptable and a breach of all rules for Dr. Fauci, a senior member of the President’s Coronavirus Task Force and someone who has praised President Trump’s actions throughout this pandemic, to choose three days before the elections to practice politics,” said Mr. Derry.
“ As a member of the task force, Dr. Fauci has a duty to voice his concerns or press for a change of strategy, but he has not done so, and instead chooses to criticize the president in the media and publicize his political leanings by praising the opposing president – exactly what the people expected American from the swamp. “
