Just a little more patience, then the 110th Tour de France will finally start. Then the 110th Tour de France will finally start. This also means that you only have until Saturday morning to participate in Tour Cycling. Stress check? Or do you get no further than names like Wout van Aart, Matthew van der Poel, and Tadej Pogacar? You can make a difference with these 10 relatively unknown riders.
Carlos Rodriguez (Ineos – Grenadiers)
The upcoming Tour de France is going to be a real climbing feast, so you’d better take a few guys with you who can ride the bike well. Carlos Rodriguez is one of them. The Spaniard is only 22 years old, but he recently proved at the Critérium du Dauphiné that his level is good. He won the young rider classification and finished ninth in the final classification.
Matthias Skilmoz (Liddle Trek)
Well, is this still real weird? Skjelmose, 22, caused a sensation by winning the Swiss Tour and being crowned Danish champion. At Lidl – Trek, he had a good final placing in the general classification. An excellent candidate for a stage win and perhaps a podium finish.
Matthieu Jorgenson (Movistar)
Another talented young racer on this list. Mathieu Jorgenson won the Tour of Oman at the start of this year, then had good rankings in Paris-Nice (8th), the Tour of Flanders (9th), the Tour of Romandie, and the E3 Saxo Classic (4th). Last year, during his first appearance on the tour, he was 20 years old. Is there more in the barrel this year? Movistar has a real leader in Enric Mas, but there should also be something possible for Jorgenson about that.
Fred Wright (Bahrain-Victorious)
Fred Wright, the new UK champion, finished second in a stage of the Tour de France last year and is part of the strong Bahrain-Victorious team. With a national title in his pocket and places of honor in the Tour of Flanders (eighth) and a few stages in the Critérium du Dauphiné, the Briton appears to be the right choice for your selection.
Guillaume Martin (Cofidis)
Will Martin go to the general classification or the mountain jersey and stage wins? However, good Martin is securing the necessary points in Tour Cycling. At the Critérium du Dauphiné he finished sixth in the final standings, among other things by finishing in the top ten in the last two stages.
Felix Gall (AG2R Citroen)
The Austrian finished eighth after a strong round in Switzerland. A much higher rating seemed within reach, but it disappointed him during the course of the trial. Along with Ben O’Conner, Gall has to do it on the rise for AG2R Citroën. Who knows, the 25-year-old will have a chance in the mountains jersey? This will make a nice moat for points.
Jordi Meus (Bora Hansgrohe)
Definitely not the most famous name on this list, but it’s a good one to include in your team. The Belgian (24 years old) is favored by Bora Hansgrohe over Sam Bennett and must ensure success in the sprints. He gets help from Brabant’s Danny van Poppel.
Luca Mozzato (Arkia Samsic)
Not a sprinter likely to take home a green jersey and four stage victories, but a fast Italian who would be good for the necessary top-10 classification. Are you looking for a points collector? Then keep Mozzato in mind.
Magnus Court (EF Education)
Do you want someone else in your selection who can ride in the top 10 on multiple stages? Then write Magnus Kurt. The Dane won a stage in the Giro earlier this year and also finished third in a stage in Italy. The speedy Dane has already won nine Grand Tour stages. Cort can sprint, but can also be found regularly on the day trip.
Tobias Haaland Johansson (Uno-X)
The Uno-X has been given a wildcard for the Tour de France and has a sprinter and rider in the classification with Alexander Kristoff and Rasmus Teller. Tobias Halland Johannessen can also climb a bit and is also in good shape: on the fifth stage of the Critérium du Dauphiné, he finished third behind Jonas Vingegaard and Julian Alaphilippe.
How does the cycling tour game work?
In Tour Cycling, you have to form a team of 15 cyclists. These riders score points on each stage with their stage result and position in the yellow jersey, green jersey, mountain jersey and youth jersey classifications at the end of the stage. You can also participate in so-called Buddy Leagues: challenge your friends. Registration for the bike ride closes on the morning of Saturday 1 July at approximately 10am. After that, registration is no longer possible.
