Böningen sisters Chiara and Naomi Janssen have become world champions with the Dutch women’s team in Romania at the IESF Women’s E-Sports World Championship. Councilor Alwyn Steg congratulated the sisters on behalf of the mayor and local councilors on this special achievement.
Kiara and Naomi, also known by their names “Qayara” and “Naomi”, are active in eSports. Esports is the competitive play of multiplayer video games at a professional level. The term is a combination of the words electronic and mathematical. Through online collaboration at a high level, sports lead to communication between players and teams. Chiara, Naomi and their team have already beaten Brazil, USA, South Africa and Hong Kong in the group stage. In the end, they reached the final, where the Dutch women’s team beat Argentina 2-1 and became world champions of the IESF Women’s Esports World Championship.

Chiara and Naomi were put in the spotlight by Councilor Alwyn Steg in the Council Chamber at City Hall on Friday. Chairman of the Board Frederik Peters from the Dutch E-Commerce Association (BEN) was also present. Councilor Alwyn Steeg is proud that the sisters are putting eSports on the map: “ESports is a relatively unknown sport, but thanks to Chiara and Naomi, it is receiving increasing attention. We believe that Chiara and Naomi are true ambassadors for eSports!” The council wrote in their congratulatory letter to Chiara and Naomi: “From Among all the participating countries, it is clear that you were the strongest in Romania, and although it is a team effort, we are of course very proud that you, as residents of our municipality, have done this.
