The young man who disappeared deep inside a flooded gold well in Suriname last Friday is 19-year-old gold miner Miguelo Delano Eva.
This morning at around 7:30 a.m., Surinamese police received a report that a body had been found. The remains were recovered shortly after.
The incident occurred on Friday, July 5, during the work of the ZiJin team. According to police, the young man tried to escape arrest during the unit's operation and fell from a 20-meter-high seat.
He then allegedly got up and continued his journey before falling into a well filled with water. According to police, Eva disappeared into the depths and never reappeared.
Eva's relatives have a different take and are furious. The family suspects that police stoned their loved one and then threw him into a well in the goldfield, causing him to drown.
According to claims by people on social media, Delano was shot by police officers, which police have strongly denied.
After coordination with the Surinamese Public Prosecution, the miner's body was transferred to his family. The family is demanding further investigation.
