Boston Bruins legend Bobby Orr endorsed Republican President Donald Trump in an advertisement in the Manchester Union-Leader Friday, saying Trump had “handed over to the American people.”
“This is the kind of mates that I want,” said 72-year-old Ur, in the ad, which featured a picture of Ure and his wife, Peggy, with Trump, smiling and pointing their finger upwards.
Some of you are probably still hesitating at this point. Your vote for President Trump will help keep America moving in the coming years. So please, join me as I support President Donald J. Trump for re-election in this most important election. “
The ad is signed “Respectfully, Bobby Orr” and a note reads at the bottom, “Paid by Bobby Orr”.
The announcement comes in the final days of Trump’s scandalous and divisive re-election campaign against Democrat Joe Biden.
“I’ve never done anything like this before, but I am very anxious for the country my family grew up in – the country that I have grown to love so dearly. I want my grandchildren to know the America I know, the place of patriotism and opportunity,” said Ur, who was born in Canada, in the advertisement.
Ur’s endorsement came a day after golf legend Jack Nicklaus, 80, announced his endorsement of Trump in a tweet.
The Orr and Nicklaus ad shared the tweet with several arguments and even some wording.
Maybe you don’t like his tweets or how the president says things sometimes, and that is your right. But remember, this is not a personal contest; It is about the politics and the people that these policies help, “for example, the Orr ad said.
“You may not like the way our boss says or tweet some things – trust me, I told him that! – but I learned to move past that and focus on what he’s trying to achieve. This is not a personal contest. It is about patriotism, the politics, and the people who influence them,” Nicklaus wrote On Twitter.
