After a long time, Vice President and ABOP leader Ronnie Brunswick stood on the stage of Pertjajah Luhur (PL) and did not call on Javanese voters to support his friend Paul Somohardjo by voting for the Red Party on May 25, 2025. He called on the White Party to vote.
This was very noticeable at the PL party meeting on Friday in Marienburg, Kumeini, during the celebration of 134 years of Javanese immigration to Suriname.
Despite the fact that ABOP and PL would be running separately, Brunswick was present at this party meeting with Assembly President Marinus P. There he once again appealed to Javanese to come together and form a unity. However, the appeal to Javanese to vote for the Communist Party and praise Sumohardjos did not materialize.
It’s no secret that in addition to mobilizing Afro-Surinamese voters, ABOP has also focused on other demographic groups, including Javanese voters. Bee, who coordinates ABOP’s non-traditional districts, said in June that Brunswick needs more power to achieve more, including the presidency. And that power will have to come not just from the Maroons, but from all other demographic groups nationwide.
During the Javanese New Year celebrations in July, Brunswick praised Sumohardjo for ensuring that President Chan Santokhi declared the Javanese New Year a national holiday. In May, the ABOP leader told a Liberal Party rally that Sumohardjo was good enough to get 40,000 votes. There, he appealed to all Javanese voters to continue supporting the HT leader.
At the 25th anniversary celebration meeting of PL in December last year, Brunswick asked PL members to continue supporting Sumohardjo, because, according to him, the PL leader is the hope of Javanese people. He also stated that all “Javanese parties” should join one central party, the PL Party. At the party meeting in connection with the celebration of Javanese migration last year, Brunswick donated two cars to Sumohardjo for painting.
The second man from Suriname last Friday, as before, pointed out that the Javanese community in Suriname is indispensable and part of the Promky Diari.
“I am convinced that all the Yambanisi people, the Nanga Sisa, the university graduates, the Nanga alla the Kony San den Abi, and together the Nanga Tra vo a Kondre Disi groups, together we go to build the Kondre Disi. And I am sure that if the package can na wan, unu abiUnity ini a kondre disi, wo tyari a kondre disi go na wan moro hei height,” was Brunswick’s message to those present.
