Alexander Buttner has been without a club for the past six months, but the attacking left-back from Doetinchem has now found a new club. Thirty-year-old Buttner has signed a contract with MLS club New England Revolution.
Butner will not play with his new club at the present time, because the new season in the American League will not start until February. Next Sunday (at 9 pm), the final match of this season’s tournament will be held in the United States, between Seattle Sounders and Toronto FC.
Butner will play for New England under experienced coach Bruce Arena, who was the US national coach for many years. Under his leadership, New England reached the American League playoffs that season, where they competed for the championship. But in the first match, New England was immediately eliminated by coach Frank de Boer's Atlanta United.
For Buettner, this will be the fourth overseas adventure of his career. The left-back left Vitesse for Manchester United in 2012. Before returning to Arnhem in 2017, he was still under contract with Dynamo Moscow and Anderlecht.
