Caja Rural-Seguros RGA can count on the services of Sebastian Berwick next year. The 23-year-old Australian climber departs after three seasons at Israel-Premier Tech. Berwick is the fifth signing for the Spanish squad for 2024.

The still young Berwick is known as a good climber. In 2019 and 2020, he managed to come into the spotlight at Israel-Premier Tech while working for the St. George Continental Cycling Team. The Israeli formation decided to give him the opportunity and include him at the end of 2020. Berwick eventually rode this team for three seasons and was able to distinguish himself several times.

For example, in his second professional year he won a stage in the Tour of Alpes Isère (2.2). In this French stage race he also finished third in the final classification. Last season he performed even better, leading to his first win among professional cyclists in October. The Australian won the second stage of the Tour of Hainan (2.Pro), ahead of Oscar Sevilla, Ben Hermans, Valerio Conte and others.

Berwick also showed himself in this year’s Giro d’Italia. On the twelfth stage in front of Rivoli, he fought a three-way battle with Nico Dinz and Toms Skogis for the stage victory, but he had to admit his superiority in the race over the German and the Latvian. Berwick also won the Tour of Alsace this year (2.2) and finished 13th in the Tour Down Under.

    More freedom
Berwick hopes to be able to drive more on his own terms with his new team. “I see it as a good opportunity to play a more important role within the team. I hope to get more opportunities at this stage of my career. I see myself as a climber who also likes to attack. I hope to perform even better next year and win races. The team has great confidence in my abilities “I hope I can achieve that.”
