Responds to an article in the Wall Street Journal about a laboratory researching disease-causing viruses, such as the Coronavirus.
Unfounded claims
The story stated, based on a previously unpublished report on the final days of US President Donald Trump’s administration, that several laboratory researchers developed symptoms similar to both in the fall of 2019. Covid-19 was a common seasonal disease.
“These allegations are baseless,” director Yuan Qiming said in the Chinese newspaper Global Times. “The laboratory was not aware of this situation, and I do not even know where this information comes from,” the Chinese researcher told the newspaper.
No disclosure
A study by the World Health Organization (WHO) previously found that the virus may not have come from the laboratory, but from animals.
There was a lot of criticism of this investigation, as China was not going to reveal enough. The current outbreak of the virus began in Wuhan and has spread throughout the world.
