The Indian Wells Tennis Championships included Novak Djokovic in the tournament schedule. However, it remains unclear whether Serbia, ranked 2 in the world ranking, will be allowed to travel to the United States.
The 20-times title winner has so far refused to be vaccinated against the coronavirus and previously said he would be willing to miss out on tournaments for this reason. Djokovic was forced to leave the country in January after a lawsuit in Australia and was unable to participate in the Australian Open in Melbourne.
“Djokovic is on the entry list for the tournament and therefore on the schedule. We are currently in consultation with his team,” Indian Wells organizers said on Twitter. “However, it has not yet been decided whether he will take part in the tournament because he has not yet obtained a permit from the CDC to enter the country.” The Serbian won the Masters championship in California five times.
Rules on the CDC’s March 3 website state that non-immigrant travelers must be vaccinated against Covid-19 in order to fly to the United States.
