Journalist Michael Wolff writes in his new book that Donald and Melania Trump are having dinner at a tight table in a restaurant at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort.
“They look a bit like zoo animals,” this first comparison of him to the VIP table of the former presidential couple among fans.
Wolf wrote that they spend dinner shaking hands and greeting fans.
He says being a Trump fan is the only qualifier for membership in Mar-a-Lago.
Former President Donald, Trump and his wife, Melania, often eat alone at a roped table in the middle of a patio restaurant at his Mar-a-Lago resort. This can be read in an earlier publication in The Times of London of journalist Michael Wolff’s new book.
Wolf writes in his book Overwhelming: The Final Days of the Trump Presidency that the Trump family is “reviewed somewhat like zoo animals.” To modify that comparison next: “No, no, that’s not true. They are like a newlywed couple: every night is a wedding where they spend their dinner welcoming friends and fans.”
Since leaving the White House, Trump has been living in his club in Florida, where he hosts Republican senators and members of Congress seeking support from the former president. It usually eats in the yard and appears full. “At that moment, everyone stands and claps,” writes Wolfe.

The book questions whether Melania Trump also lives in Mar-a-Lago.
“For four years, it wasn’t entirely clear how much time she spent in the White House or in the Maryland home where her parents lived,” wrote Wolf. “The assistants were reluctant to inquire or ask openly. Here, too, at Mar-a-Lago, it is unclear.”
Early in Trump’s presidency, Melania made headlines by not moving to the White House immediately. She and their son Barron stayed in New York until the end of the school year, a decision that cost about $27 million in security.
Officially, Melania Trump has her own office, but after leaving the White House, she has stayed out of the limelight. “She’s not in Mar-a-Lago at all. She doesn’t communicate with people and rarely interacts with her husband’s staff,” a relative of the couple told CNN in April.
Club life at Mar-a-Lago is ‘old fashioned’
According to CNN, the couple share a “large selection of rooms” on the property. Melania’s parents will stay there for weeks at a time in their private suite. According to a source who spoke to CNN, the former first lady “also makes regular trips to the on-site spa,” and sometimes had twice-daily treatments.
Three people familiar with Trump’s dinner appearances told CNN that Melania was “smiling and waving as other diners rose from their seats to applaud the arrival of the former presidential couple into the dining room.”
Wolfe’s book describes “old club life” in Mar-a-Lago, with Croque Singles, Prime Rib Night, and poster boards showing the schedule.
The only qualification for membership—exceeding the $250,000 registration fee now versus the $150,000 before Trump’s presidency, plus hefty annual fees—is that you have to be a hopeless Trump fan,” writes Wolf. “This is more of an aesthetic statement than a political statement— Under the influence of super celebrity charms.”
