The Netherlands will need dozens of additional ambulances next year to meet the demand. That’s what RIVM says. Each year the Health Institute calculates the number of ambulances required in the Netherlands for the following year.
In 2023 there will be 692 working days during the day, which is 40 working days more than this year. Also on Saturdays and Sundays, more ambulances are needed during the day than was calculated in 2022, 40 and 35 respectively.
RIVM also calculates that 10,104 ambulances should be called during the entire week, 666 more than now. The institute’s explanation for the increase is that ambulances travel at a slower speed on many roads. In addition, in recent years, people’s demand for an ambulance has increased.
In addition to more ambulances, twenty additional stations are also needed. Part of this has to be in areas with relatively sparse populations. According to RIVM, it is questionable whether sufficient money and staff will be available for these additional offerings.
