Several well-known Dutch people attended a demonstration against the possible repeal of the federal abortion law in the United States. It will take place on Saturday at Dam Square in Amsterdam. In addition to explicit solidarity with women in America who wish to terminate their pregnancies, the message comes to protect the right to abortion in the Netherlands.
One of the celebrities is presenter Tim Hoffman, who posts photos of the demonstration and the protesters on his Instagram account. One of the joint photos shows a woman holding a sign that reads “You are your faith, I am my mercy.” Actor Victor Renner is also among hundreds of protesters. It looks like writer Stella Bergsma will be in attendance as well. “If you talk about your miscarriage on Twitter…,” she writes, sharing screenshots of the tweets. One tweet reads: ‘The right decision. No kid wants to see his mother as a whore on the internet.’ Bergsma then writes: ‘Come to Dam Square, folks! 13.00!’
Solidarity work is supported by Amnesty International, Rutgers Knowledge Center, and Maine, Inc, among others. The organization behind the Women’s March. Several people are talking during the demonstration. The move comes in response to a draft US Supreme Court ruling issued this week. If this decision becomes final, each state will be allowed to separately legislate on abortion. The right to an abortion after six weeks is expected to be prohibited in conservative states in particular.
Hadewych Minis also talks about the right to an abortion on Saturday. Earlier today, the actress called on people via Instagram not only to show solidarity with the pro-abortion movement in the US, but also to “keep talking about abortion in the Netherlands”. “The moment the right to self-determination is violated, it is already too late,” she said.
