The Dutch tennis players will meet a strong team from the United States in the group stage of the Davis Cup Finals next month. US Captain Bob Bryan selected Francis Tiafoe, Tommy Ball, McKenzie McDonald, Austin Krajesek and Rajeev Ram for the Nations Cup in Croatia.
Taylor Fritz, ranked 9th in the world rankings, is not playing. Fritz’s absence means Tiafoe, the No. 10, is America’s highest-ranked finisher. On Monday morning, the 25-year-old tennis player defeated Talon Gribbs, the best Dutch player, at the Masters tournament in Cincinnati.
Paul is the current number 13 in the world ranking. He defeated world number one Carlos Alcaraz this past weekend in Toronto en route to his first Masters semi-final. McDonald is ranked No. 43. Krajicek is No. 3 in the world in doubles, while Ram is No. 1.
The Netherlands will play their group match against the United States in the Davis Cup Finals on September 14 in Split. Host country Croatia and Finland are the other two members of the group. Each meeting consists of three matches: two singles and one doubles. Numbers 1 and 2 qualify for the knockout stage, later this year in Valencia.
