Bus operator EBS's new public transport car park in Burmerend was opened this afternoon. It is ZE's largest and most advanced parking site in the Netherlands, with 128 charging spaces and 7,000 square meters of solar panels.
EBS provides public transportation in Zaanstreek-Waterland under the name MeerPlus. The new parking facility at Burmerend was ceremoniously opened today by Gerard Sligers (Executive Council Member
Amsterdam Transport Zone), Wilco Mall (EBS CEO) and Kaj Mock (EBS Franchise Director). The new parking facility in Purmerend, together with the parking facility in Zaandam, allows public transport in Zaanstreek-Waterland to operate completely emission-free. “This is a very important step for us as a transport region,” says Gerard Sligers.
There are 128 charging bays on site with an area of more than 38,000 square meters for charging MeerPlus electric buses. There is also an environmentally friendly workshop and laundry hall, where a special zeolite formulation ensures that 80% of wash water is reused with every wash. Part of the energy needed for the charging stations is generated by more than 2,000 solar panels installed on the roof. Excess energy is temporarily stored in two massive batteries with a combined capacity of 2.15 MWh.
Smart charging with green energy
“With our advanced energy management system, we ensure that green energy is automatically supplied to buses at the right time,” says Kaj Mok. “We are also using innovative storage batteries to relieve pressure on the electricity grid. Smart technologies ensure that as little self-generated electricity is lost as possible. Thanks to the green steam emitted by the solar panels on this site alone, EBS saves approximately 360,000 kg of CO2 emissions.” .
For and with people
“We are a company for and by people,” says Wilco Mall, “and we have now achieved beautiful technological solutions here in Burmerand and Zaandam. But in the end that is what matters.”
Do with that. Driving sustainable electric buses creates a better living environment and all people in the Zaan Waterland region benefit from this.
