OudenaardeEric Olshall (58) crossed from the US for the second time in four years to experience the Tour of Flanders and also to ride the track himself.
The American has been training for a few days to be able to complete the 144 km trip on Saturday. “Cycling is still alive with us in Winston-Salem, North Carolina, but it’s nothing like what you live here. Biking was really born here,” the man says.
“The pebbles are wonderful,” he winks. Even gravel. “I get the impression that they are all over the place here. Do you know how many we have in the States? In my neighborhood there is an 80-meter strip. In order to feed us a little bit of hostility, we are constantly moving back and forth over it. I wouldn’t be surprised if these stones were imported. from you,” the American laughs.
He already knows where he is along the track, which is also a favourite: “I’m going to sit on Oude Kwaremont and hope Victor Campanaerts wins the race,” concludes Eric.
