Retired tennis star Ashleigh Barty has no plans to return as a professional athlete. And so the world number one has successfully quashed rumors that she would be turning her career into golf.
The 25-year-old Grand Slam winner stunned the tennis world in March with the surprise announcement that she was retiring. A few weeks ago, she won the Australian Open as the first Australian in 44 years.

Barty didn’t know what she was going to do, but she was always a talented golfer. She won a title at Brookwater Golf Club near Brisbane in 2020 and competed in the Icon Series Demo Championship in the US in April.

In an interview with a Melbourne radio station, the 26-year-old Barty put an end to the speculation. She excludes that she will continue to practice any sport professionally. “You can’t accept the fact that I don’t want to play a professional sport anymore,” Barty said. “I love golf, it’s a hobby for me. But it wouldn’t be my profession. And I have no intention of making it my profession, but I’ll take a tour once a week if I can.”
