A US salesman for computer giant Lenovo is seeking “urgent” compensation from his former employer after he was allegedly unfairly dismissed. The man was fired after urinating in the corner of a New York hotel lobby.
Richard Baker, 66, is seeking $1.5 million in damages from Lenovo. He says he had to urinate so hard that he did it behind a column in the lobby of the Westin Hotel in New York City, the New York Post reported.
The man had already visited the toilet five times during the dinner he had returned from to his hotel. Because he had a bladder condition, he had to return to the hotel urgently upon his arrival. “At that moment, in his panic and embarrassment, he had no other choice,” the complaint against his former employer says.
He wasn't urinating secretly, because a colleague saw him and reported him to Lenovo's human resources department. According to Baker, the colleague did it “out of revenge and bullying.”
“No impact on his work”
Four days later, the computer salesman received notice of termination. It would have been “sudden and without severance pay.” Baker is now seeking damages because, he says, Lenovo knew about his bladder problems.
According to the employee, the dismissal was the result of “discrimination on the basis of disability.” “The company knew about it, but fired him anyway, even though the incident did not affect his employment at Lenovo.”
According to a source from the New York Post, there is a restroom in the lobby.
