videoFor Rinus van Kalmthout, the Indy500 turned out to be a huge disappointment. The Dutchman started third in the most prestigious car race in the United States. He started well and moved to second place but he made a terrible mistake at the start of the match.
He lost control of his car and crashed into a wall at high speed on the legendary track in Indianapolis.
For Veekay, as Van Kalmthout goes through life in the United States, winning an Indy500 race is a dream. He would have loved to follow in the footsteps of Ari Luyendyk, who was the only Dutchman to win the race in 1990 and 1997 and thus earned champion status in America.
So that’s not happening to Van Calmott at the moment. I lost control of the back of the car. “I was surprised it happened. Just a huge bum. Racing can be so much fun, but sometimes it’s also the worst sport ever. Now I have to watch all those rounds like the others do. It’s so frustrating.”
Marcus Ericsson won the 106th round of the Indy 500. The Swede had a big lead, but after a crash by Jimmy Johnson, the race was replayed four laps before the finish. Ericsson managed to hold on to that. Mexican Pato Award took second place ahead of Brazilian Tony Kanaan. Ericsson is the second Swede to win the competition after Kenny Brake in 1999.
