“Hope, Courage, Pride” will have a more pessimistic connotation in the government's yet-to-be-formulated programme.
Following previous recent reports about the Schöff government's financial setbacks, VVD Finance Minister Eilco Heinen recently warned all his colleagues that money was running out and there were no financial resources for new wishes outside the agreements contained in the mainline agreement.
If the party minister sticks to his position, the transition from the framework agreement to a concrete government programme will contain little new, such as “free issues” that cost money.
There is a good chance that the core principles of the agreement, “Hope, Courage, and Pride,” in the government program will have a different and less optimistic connotation. You will probably realize that you can want a lot, but it must be possible and financially feasible. In other words: you must have economic and financial tailwinds. And those tailwinds have become headwinds in 2024 due to all the financial setbacks that are currently known.
It is expected to be a hot political summer for all ministers in the Chouf government, with the leaders of the four factions on the sidelines.
