The National Sports Innovator Award is given annually to innovative products or services in the sport and exercise (top) sector. The award consists of a financial grant given to innovations that result in a tangible product or service. This includes consideration of ideas that, in addition to their impact on sport, have (potential) economic and social value. This time the theme was ‘Future-proofing sports providers’. Innovations can be aimed at sports clubs as well as enterprising sports providers, and must have already proven successful locally on a small scale.
“The promising sports providers of the future are professionally organised and financially sound. They are enterprising sports clubs or sports providers that respond to an ageing population, individualism and digitalisation. They work together where necessary and possible to meet changing future demand. The jury evaluated twenty selected innovative initiatives, from which these winners ultimately emerged. By honouring these five outstanding innovations, we contribute to the ambition of the National Sports Agreement to make all types of sports and exercise providers future-proof,” said jury chairman Martin Olde Weijhuis.
