If it were up to Mercedes, traffic light racing would never be the same again. For the equivalent of 1,200 euros per year, the Mercedes EQE or EQS gets extra power. Not by sending a tuner, but via an app.
Paying for use rather than ownership is becoming more and more popular. Netflix, Spotify, rent a private car, your mobile phone, a subscription to Nio ET7. BMW has created a sensation in the summer of 2022 by experimenting with subscription convenience functions. For example, you pay €19 a month to sign up for heated seats.
Pay to listen to the radio in the car
Tesla is happily participating in this trend, but it has already passed the experimental stage. Eight years later, Dutch Tesla owners will pay a monthly fee for the standard feature package, which includes not only the navigation system, but even the radio. Do you have to pay to listen to the radio? This is not yet known, but it should not be ruled out. Maybe Elon Musk ran his hand over his heart if you gave him a thumbs up on Twitter…
A faster electric Mercedes? That would be $1,200
Now Mercedes is also entering the subscription fray in the US. You won’t be asking for money for heated seats or the voice of Astrid Kreisbaum on Radio 1 Journal, but for more power on its EQE, EQE SUV, EQS and EQS SUV models. For that you have to pay 1,200 dollars a year (about 1,200 euros). I had to go to a tuner for that, but now it’s ordering with a digital update.
As thrifty Dutchmen, we immediately think: this Acceleration boost service It must be pretty amazing for such an amount. Will it beat the Tesla Model S Plaid, which accelerates from 0 to 100 km / h in 2.1 seconds? We probably pay 100 euros a month for it.
1 second faster for just over €3 a day
But the reality is less exciting. By adjusting engine management, power and torque, the electric Mercedes accelerates from 0 to 100 km/h faster than 0 to 100 km/h, depending on the model.
I do not want? The power of the Mercedes EQE 350 4Matic has increased from 288 hp to 348 hp. Forget that your Tesla will make life miserable. Instead of 6 seconds, you’re on the road to sprint 0-100 in 5.1 seconds. The increase approximates with the EQE SUV, completing the sprint in 6.2 seconds instead of 5.2 seconds. This will cost you 3.28 euros per day.
With the larger Mercedes EQS 450 4Matic and Mercedes EQS SUV 450 4Matic, power jumped from 355 to 442 hp after the update. As a result, you are of course faster in the race: the sedan does it in 4.5 instead of 5.3 seconds. The SUV’s sprint time drops from 5.8 to 4.9 seconds. We are very curious about how Mercedes buyers will entice customers to opt for this update…

Just like a smartphone
Although this power update is only possible in the US, get used to it. Electric cars run software packages and with over-the-air updates, adding new features to your vehicle is a piece of cake. Just like with your mobile phone. Let the update run overnight and your car will suddenly be able to do things you couldn’t do before. But does this always make sense…
