Yvonne Mfugo will not be traveling with Switzerland for the World Cup in Qatar later this month. His current club, FC Lorient, announced today, Tuesday, that the former PSV Eindhoven goalkeeper suffered a lot with a leg injury.
Mfugo was injured on Sunday in a 1-2 loss to Paris Saint-Germain. The 28-year-old was replaced after 13 minutes. On Tuesday, it was announced that the thigh injury was so severe that Mfuju could not compete in the World Cup.
This is not just a streak through the Mfugo account, but also the account of the Swiss national team. First choice Jan Sommer is suffering from the fallout from injury and is expected to be back in shape again just before the World Cup. National team coach Murat Yakin should announce his selection on Monday (November 14th).
Switzerland is in a group in the World Cup with Cameroon, Brazil and Serbia. The Cameroonians are the first contenders on Thursday, November 24th. Before the tournament kicks off, Switzerland will play an exhibition match with Ghana (November 17).
Mvogo has played the previous two seasons for PSV, which he has rented from RB Leipzig. Last summer he made the final move to Lorient. Mfugo played four international matches with the Swiss national team on his behalf.
