Today’s update to the popular video game Fortnite is set to be an exciting update for players on all supported platforms as it adds a variety of seasonal items and activities to enjoy during the Christmas season in addition to some gameplay improvements for both PC and new generic console owners.
After rolling out this update over the next few hours, those who play on Microsoft’s newly launched Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S consoles will be able to play Fortnite at 120 frames per second (FPS) if they choose. Both devices already support 60fps, so this will be another gaming option that fans can try.
It’s worth noting that while the 60fps mode plays in 4K on the Xbox Series X, playing at 120fps will bring the visuals down to 1,440p. 60 and 120 fps modes on the cheaper Xbox Series S console are locked in at 1080p.
At the other end of the technology spectrum, those who play Fortnite on a Windows PC with older or slower devices can try a new performance mode via game settings that will prioritize gameplay and speed over visuals.
December was a big month for Fortnite. This month marked the end of the second season of the Marvel-themed fourth season, the first monthly Fortnite Crew subscription ever, the addition of Mandalorian’s Din Djin and Grogu with the launch of Season 5, and the arrival of the Master Chief from the Xbox Halo video game franchise.
