Surprisingly enough, the somewhat older FritzBox model is still receiving the latest update from FritzOS, as recently announced by AVM. Here we summarize what router it is and the improvements that the latest version brings with it.
The FritzBox 7490 appeared in 2013 and is still used by many users to this day. The manufacturer AVM has now indicated that there may be an update for the device despite its age. It will likely be around FritzOS 7.50.
Whether this will actually happen is not 100 per cent confirmed. The development of the 7490 is still in progress. One of the major innovations of FritzOS 7.50 is the Wireguard app. This allows the use of VPN solutions from third-party providers.

In addition, the new operating system comes with a whole host of other improvements. With WiFi, both the 2.4GHz frequency band and the 5GHz frequency band are now available. There are also improvements that increase the speed in such a network.
In addition, your phone book can now be used as a positive list. All other calls can be blocked if you wish. It is not yet known when users can expect a corresponding update.
