The German Football Association announced the dismissal of Hansi Flick (58). The national team coach has been under pressure for several months and has now had to resign due to the disappointing results.
Last winter, Germany were knocked out in the group stage at the World Cup in Qatar. In the months that followed, the hoped-for improvement did not materialize. And because Germany is the host country for the next European Championship, the Germans do not have to play qualifying matches. However, the necessary training matches will be completed.
Peru won the first match, but this was followed by defeats against Belgium, Poland and Colombia and a draw against Ukraine. On Saturday there was a very painful 4-1 defeat against Wolfsburg in the training match against Japan.
Hansi Flick himself still sees enough prospects after Japan’s disgrace. He noted that he still considers himself the right man to prepare German footballers for Euro 2024. “Maybe it wasn’t visible on the field. But I still think I’m the right guy for the job. “I support what we are doing, and that is why I want to continue as the national coach of Germany,” Flick said after the painful defeat in training.

Who will be Flick’s successor?
According to German picture Louis van Gaal is on the list of possible successors. However, Julian Nagelsmann is currently seen as the perfect successor to Flick. The 36-year-old Nagelsmann was expelled from Bayern Munich last March. Miroslav Klose, Rudi Voller, Jurgen Klopp and Lothar Matthaus, among others, have also been mentioned.
Rudi Voller, Hans Wolf and Sandro Wagner will pay tribute to vice world champions France in the next friendly match in Dortmund next Tuesday evening. The next international will take place in mid-October, when Germany will face the United States and Mexico on the other side of the ocean.
The German Federation described Flick’s dismissal as a difficult decision, but also an inevitable one. “The team needs fresh impetus after consistently disappointing results. “We need optimism and confidence in light of the European Championship at home,” explains Bernd Neuendorf, president of the German Football Association. “The aim is to find a successor to Flick as quickly as possible.”
The 58-year-old Flick has been coaching the Germany national team since 2021, after winning the Champions League title with Bayern Munich in 2020. Previously, the German was coach of TSG Hoffenheim, assistant coach at Red Bull Salzburg and was assistant national coach with the German national team. Between 2006 and 2014.
