Almost a year after the theatrical release of Godzilla vs. KongLooks like Legendary has already started the pre-production process for Godzilla vs. Kong 2, A self-titled sequel to the MonsterVerse franchise. The first reports about the development of the project appeared last year, but the studio neither confirmed nor denied its existence.
Now, in a recent press release from Screen Queensland, it was confirmed that Legendary is making progress with a sequel Godzilla vs. Kong, which will go into production in Australia later this year. Likes Kong: Skull Island And the Godzilla vs. KongThe unnamed project is expected to be filmed at “locations in the Gold Coast and southeast Queensland”. Prime Minister Anastasia Balchuk said in a statement:
“We are delighted to welcome the producers of Legendary Pictures back to Queensland, after filming Kong Skull Island and Godzilla vs. Kong in the state in 2016 and 2019, respectively. Our highly skilled local crew, diverse locations and top-notch facilities have been definite draw cards. For them to come back again.”
The upcoming fifth film in the blockbuster series will provide $79.2 million in economic support to Queensland, as well as create 505 jobs for local actors and crew and 750 additional jobs.
Additional details about the project remain classified, but initial reports last year suggested it might be the title son of Kong they will get. It is unclear if Adam Wingard will return as a director or not. The project was again produced by Eric McLeod. MacLeod said:
“High-skilled crews, first-class facilities and unique locations make filming in Australia a wonderful experience. Support from both the Federal Government and Queensland has always been critical to our success in delivering a high standard of filmmaking and an unparalleled audience experience.”
After being postponed from its November 2020 release date due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Godzilla vs. Kong It was released in international theaters on March 24, 2021 and in the United States on March 31. Here, the film was simultaneously released in theaters and on HBO Max. In the Netherlands, we still have to wait until April 29.

The main roles are played by Alexander Skarsgård, Millie Bobby Brown, Rebecca Hall, Brian Terry Henry, Sean Oguri, Isa Gonzalez, Jessica Henwick, Julian Denison, Kyle Chandler and Demian Basher.
