American golfer Brooks Koepka defeated rival Bryson DeChambeau in the match, a live televised show match. The duel between Koepka and DeChambeau was basically a dozen holes at Wynn Golf Club in Las Vegas, but after nine holes the 31-year-old Koepka already won.
Icons Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson started The Match three years ago, and five editions are now staged. In the first issue in 2018, the stake was $9 million. He defeated Mickelson Woods in a 22-hole long match which gave him the full spoils.
In the years since, proceeds from The Match have always gone to charity. Golfers Mickelson, Woods, and Deschamps in matches have helped stars from other sports, including NFL players Tom Brady, Peyton Manning and Aaron Rodgers, and basketball players Stephen Curry and Charles Barkley.
In Las Vegas, the fifth edition of The Match was once again a battle between two golfers. They have a difficult relationship between the four-time winners, Koepka and DeChambeau, the best at last year’s US Open. In recent years, they have clashed regularly, especially verbally. The two best golfers recently put their mutual feud aside in the Ryder Cup. They gave the United States victory in the prestigious duel with Europe.
Koepka outperformed DeChambeau at Wynn Golf Club. He took the lead on the second hole. The fight ended when Kopka was four points ahead after the ninth hole. “I’m not going to lie about it, I just wanted to hit you,” the winner told DeChambeau.
