Dutch athletes can hope to achieve a record number of gold medals during the Olympic Games. Sports data agency Nielsen's Gracenote expects this to happen thirty days before the start of the Games. The Netherlands would win seventeen gold medals in Paris, five more than the record set at the 2000 Sydney Games.
With seventeen gold medals, the Netherlands will only have to put up with the United States (37), China (36) and host nation France (29).
According to the Sports Data Agency, the Netherlands could win a total of 34 medals, which puts the country in ninth place in the virtual medals table ahead of Paris. In addition to the seventeen gold medals, athletes can hope to obtain eight silver and nine bronze. The record number of medals of 36 medals was set three years ago in Tokyo.
In four of the last six Games, Dutch athletes have succeeded in eleven to thirteen sports. According to Gracenote, this may also be the case in Paris. Although rowers, cyclists and triathletes are expected to have the most success.
Athletes from the United States lead the virtual medal table with 123 medals, ten more than Tokyo. China (87) comes in second place, ahead of Great Britain (62) and France (56).
