1. How much did sugar cost?
The Dutch movie “Hoe Duur was de Suiker” is set in the former Suriname in 1747. The film is based on the successful novel by Cynthia MacLeod and tells the compelling story of two young women named Sarith and her slave Minnie Minnie, played by Jait Jansen. and Yutha Wong-Loy-Singh. In the movie, Sarith becomes unhappy due to the difficult life in the colony. However, Mini-Mini finally got a chance to live a happy life away from their masters and a brutal life as a slave. But do you dare to seize the opportunity?
The film was written and directed by Jan van de Velde. In Hoe Duur Can de Suiker, you can get a clear look at what was happening in colonial Suriname and how the people of Suriname were treated cruelly during this time of slavery.
2. Tula: The Revolution
In the film Tula: The Revolt, you watch the story of the leader of Curaçao’s largest slave rebellion in 1795. 3. Underground railways
Although the first two films above are about slavery based on the colonial past of the Netherlands, The Underground Railroad series is about the history of slavery in the United States and is based on the book of the same name by writer Colson Whitehead. This series is now available on Amazon Prime Video.
The series tells the story of Cora, a slave who wants to escape from the southern United States. To do this, she is looking for the organization The Underground Railroad. However, I soon learned that Underground Railroad is actually a railroad and not an organization that helps people escape (contrary to what it really was). With the help of her people, she is still trying to escape from the dangerous south.
Actors include Thoso Mbedo, Joel Edgerton, Amber Gray and Craig Dane. The series is directed by Barry Jenkins.
4. 12 years a slave
The thrilling American slavery film 12 Years a Slave tells the true story of Solomon Northup, who was kidnapped as a free man and sold as slaves. He soon finds himself in harsh conditions, where he is treated cruelly. As a result, Solomon finds it difficult to survive until, in his twelfth year as a slave, he meets a Canadian opponent of slavery that completely changes his life.

In this film, you will learn more about the past of slavery in the United States, but also about who Harriet Tubman is and what she did in the past.
Harriet’s cast includes Cynthia Erivo, Leslie Odom Jr., Clark Peters, and Omar J. Dorsey. The film is directed by Cassie Lemons.
