iPhone and iPad with new lock screen, always-on function
The lock screen on iPhone and iPad doesn’t have a reputation that reflects Apple’s innovative strength: configuration options are very limited, and shortcuts are limited to activating the camera and flashlight function. According to Gorman, the group wants to make “big improvements” to the lock screen: Apple is working on lock screen background images, which have similar functionality as widgets. Furthermore, iOS 16 lays the foundation for an always-on display. Implementation may not take long: According to Ross Young, CEO of Display Supply Chain Consultants, the feature will likely be introduced in the iPhone 14 Pro and Pro Max (see here).
In addition, there have recently been indications of a more complex multitasking mode for the iPad, in order to freely place multiple windows on the screen. Gorman also expects significant changes in this matter.
macOS 13: Revised System Settings
Not much has been leaked about macOS 13 yet, according to leaker Majin Bu, the upcoming release will include major changes to Time Machine. Mac backups can also be integrated into iCloud for the first time. Gurman doesn’t get into this, but points out a completely overhauled System Settings app that should be more iOS-oriented. In the future, users will be able to make configurations specifically for individual apps. Other default apps will also get a new design.
watchOS 9 With improved navigation, the news app gets closer to social networks
With watchOS 9 and tvOS 16, the journalist remains a bit ambiguous: thanks to the software upgrade, the Apple Watch will receive significant improvements in everyday life and in mobility. The Apple TV operating system ensures better connectivity with smart home features.
The company continues to expand the features of the news application so that it becomes more like a social network – and this applies above all to voice messages. The information about the health app is double-edged: Several new features are on the way, but the app will still be reserved for iPhone users only. Gurman does not expect the app to be integrated into iPadOS 16 or macOS 13.
