Dutch hockey players had difficulty beating the United States in the professional league. National coach Paul van As's team trailed 2-0 in London, but managed to avoid defeat in the second half. It became 3-2.
Tamer Abigail took the lead for the American women in the first minute. When Rodgers-Megan made it 2-0 in the 35th minute, there seemed to be a sensation in the making. Then the Orange team set it up again. Yossi Borg scored twice and Rene van Laarhoven scored the winning goal in the 55th minute.
The Netherlands ranks third in the professional league. However, the situation gives a distorted picture. The Dutch won nine of the ten matches they played and drew one. Leaders Australia have already played sixteen matches and No. 2 Argentina fifteen.
Van As's next match in the Pro League will be on Friday in Amsterdam against Germany.
