To help celebrate his 10th birthday, Instagram has added all of its classic icons to a secret menu that lets you revert to some of the classic app icons from last year.
As part of the latest Instagram update for Android (and iOS), a new hidden menu has appeared within the Settings app that is easy to find and activate. As long as you have version 163.0.0.6.122 (version 162.0 on iOS) on your Android device from the Google Play Store, you will be able to change your Instagram app icon all from within the photo sharing service.
There are a total of 13 icons for the Instagram app with which you can customize your home screen, but we are sure that pre-launch and original Hipstamatic-style icons will be on top of any Instagrammers’ favorite lists.
Full identification is really a far cry from the minimalist symbol that was first introduced in 2016. For extremists, the ratios will not return 1: 1, as this is just a visual reference to the classic symbols of the past decade.
To celebrate our birthday, this month we invite you to change your app icon to the favorites below. Thanks for being a part of our story and using Instagram to share your story.
How to change Instagram app icon on Android / iOS
The process is fairly identical for Android and iOS, with some minor changes to how every mobile operating system handles icon change. However, for iOS users, this video guide shows what you need to do.
- Download the latest version of Instagram from the Google Play Store (or Apple App Store)
- Open Instagram and tap on the “Profile” icon
- Click on the top left hamburger menu and access the “Settings” section
- Swipe and split the entire list down until you start to see emojis
- The scrapbook panel will bring you a new menu where you can access all the classic and alternate Instagram icons
On Android, the app icon won’t actually change for Instagram, instead you’ll get a new Home screen shortcut. However, for iOS users, you will see the appropriate application icon change to whatever you choose.
