Instagram starts with paid subscriptions

Instagram will allow influencers to offer paid subscriptions to their fans. This was announced by Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram. “Makers need predictable income,” he said in a video. “And subscriptions are one of the best ways to get predictable profits.”

Initially, Instagram will roll out the paid subscription feature in the US. Subscribers who pay will then be able to see both exclusive and live stories. Creators will also be able to easily identify them via a purple icon next to their name. But it won’t be as explicit as with OnlyFans, according to the guidelines of parent company Meta, formerly known as Facebook.

Mosseri said a few Instagram creators in the US are taking part in a test starting this week. Selected creators will be able to sell subscriptions to access exclusive content, including live broadcasts. “Over time, we hope to expand these features as it is important to integrate subscriptions into the entire Instagram experience,” the CEO said.
