Queer Amsterdam announced in an Instagram message that Israeli flags are not welcome during the Pride Parade on July 20. VVD faction leader Dan Vinants speaks out against anti-Semitism.
In an initial response, a Queer Amsterdam spokesperson pointed to their website. It states that “any form of Zionism will not be tolerated.” According to the organization, the Israeli flag appears to be an expression of that.
VVD's Dan Vinants announced today that he would be asking the council questions in response to the call not to bring Israeli flags. “It is unthinkable that anti-Semitism is so open,” he wrote, calling the decision “scandalous and unacceptable.” A Queer Amsterdam spokesperson stressed that they also do not support anti-Semitism.
Strange and proud
In recent years, Pride has been organised by different parties. Until 2021, the Pride parade was organised by Pride Amsterdam (SPA). The 2022 edition was organised by several smaller parties. Since then, in collaboration with other LGBTQ+ activist organisations, they have founded Queer Amsterdam (QA). This year, QA and SPA are jointly organising Queer & Pride Amsterdam 2024. Both clubs offer part of the programme: QA from July 3 to August 4 and SPA from July 27 to August 4.
There are two Pride marches this year, both organized differently. Queer Amsterdam organizes the march on July 20, and SPA the Pride March on July 27.
