Thelma, who currently stars at Kapaun Mt.Mt Carmel High School, comes to K-State with a wealth of accomplishments on the amateur circuit. In 2020, she made history by becoming the first female golfer in state history to win the Kansas Junior Girls (69-67-72) and Kansas Women’s Amateur (74-71-74) titles in the same year.
“We are delighted to add Kate to the team,” Assistant Technical Director Jared Helen She said. “She is very talented and her ability to score is obvious.”
The Wichita producer, who has participated in several events in the region, also racked up wins at the 2020 OJGT Lake Hefner Shootout and the 2020 Oklahoma Junior Tour Championship.
Thelma scored in 2021, finishing second in the TLGT Elite Cup and winning both the North Texas Junior-Texas Star Series and the North Texas PGA-Texas Star Series.
Her performance earned her a place on the 2020-21 Texas All-Tour Team and qualified for the 2021 USGA Junior Girls Qualifying Tournament.
As a student at Kapaun Mt. Carmel This fall, Thelma broke the GWAL Championship record by hitting 6-under-66, including a hole in one. She also won the 5A Regional Edition and finished second in the 5A State Championship.
“We love her work ethic and know she will soon make an impact,” Helen said.
Thelma will join an exciting young group of high school stars gathered by Knight, including freshmen Remington Isaac and Lily Wheatley, a sophomore Naboa Glosner employment Gabriella McNeely.
Another addition to KS, Van Beek will bring her extensive international experience and success with the hope of making an immediate impact on cats.
“Boss Jared and I are very happy to have a young lady like Noah on our team,” Knight said.
Van Beek has been part of the Dutch national team for the past eight years and especially helped them finish third in the European Girls’ Tag Team Championship.
“She has tremendous experience in competition having played many tournaments in Europe, not only as an individual, but also as a member of the Dutch national team,” said Knight. “You showed how you trained with a strong desire to be at your best and play professionally. Noah is a great addition to our team.”
Among the highlights of Van Beek’s international career, she finished second in the 2021 Dutch National Under-21 Stroke Play Championship and the 2021 Dutch Open National Championship.
“I am very competitive and have loved golf from an early age. My goal is to play on the LPGA Tour and the Olympics,” Van Beek said. “I am very excited about this new chapter in my life at KSU.”
K-State returns to action at the Westbrook Invitational February 27-28 to begin the five-event spring program. Wildcats take a big hit to middleweight two-stroke Isaac and Manon Donch Guy, both have had encouraging fall seasons, with Knight looking forward to a successful championship roster.
